Bitso – Iran’s new super service?

Bitso.ir is Iran copycat of Bitport service on which we will look in this Bitso review. It is a torrent downloader, which can download your files for you. This download is called fetching, and it happens on Bitso server. It saves you from any possible trouble because your IP address is not involved in downloading a torrent file. That means, it hides you from IP tracking or IP monitoring that would be tracking your download. So, nobody will know what you download, except you and Bitso.

[Bitso] – Torrent download process

Theoretically, if you find a torrent with a geographical lock, you can avoid it by using Bitso because their Iran IP is different than yours. Not only there is a lack of geographical locks on torrents, but also Iran IP is more vulnerable to it than European, for example. I tested their fetching speed with many files. I used a variety of amounts of seeds because it is one of the main things on which this speed depends. The other factors are quality of seeds and technology of downloading client, which is used on provider servers and which actually does the downloading for you. But these two factors are outside our reach to influence, which is why we look at the number of seeds, as the only variable that we have control over.

I downloaded a lot of files with Bitso, to test how their downloader deals with different amounts of seeds. The result for a file with 163 seeds was the speed of 1 MB per second, which is an average speed, and the result for data with around 10 to 20 seeds I measured from 0.1 MB to 0.2 MB per second. It is on the lower point of average speed. I have a suspicion that the higher speed was done by sharing a file from the cloud of someone else because the scaling doesn’t work fully like this. But there is no proof of my opinion.

[Bitso] – To promise and not deliver

After fetching your file, you will have it in your Bitso cloud storage, which is almost the same as storage of Bitport with small uglier parts. You can access it on a computer or laptop and alternatively on mobile devices. I tested it with Blackberry Playbook, iPhone X and Pixel 2 XL and on all devices. I wanted to see how much was stolen from Bitport, which I want to address now. If you put their design in comparison, you can see how much is the same.

The pricing has no difference, but you need to translate it from Persian. It is interesting that in the Persian version of pricing, you can read streaming on all devices. Still, the feature is not there in the end, and it is only false marketing from Bitso service – promising and not delivering. I found funny the significant difference between the English version and the Persian version of this clone. The Persian page looks almost identical to Bitport fresh design, but the English one looks like my project from 8th grade. It is nothing like the rest of the service, and it feels rushed when you read through it. Another feature that Bitso borrowed is sync to Google Drive, which works surprisingly good.

[Bitso] – Download to your computer

Since you cannot stream or interact with your files, the only thing you can do is to download them to your computer. Strength of your connection to Iran servers is what will determinate your download speed. The geographical location of servers and their quality are important determinants of the strength mentioned above. I tested their speed with a VPN to change my location to see strength from different parts of the world. Most of the countries had a slightly below-average pace, but India, China, and Singapore were awfully slow. The slowest of all were surprisingly Canada and New Zealand.

Conclusion

Bitso.ir gets 2 out of 5 stars rating for their download and fetching speed. The stolen service and storage gets score 1 out of 5 stars because I strongly dislike someone stealing other work, and it is something that needs to be kept in mind. Their security looks like average 3 out of 5 stars, but I won’t personally trust them at all.

My sum up is that Bitso is more expensive and worse Bitport clone. I would recommend staying with the original or looking somewhere else, then being part of this thievery.
