SonicSeedbox review – Is this cheap seedbox worth it?

SonicSeedbox is an easy and user-friendly online Seedbox service, which claims to be for everyone and especially great for newcomers. The main difference between seedbox and torrent downloader is that seedbox services always seed your files. Seeding could be explained like sharing your data with others in addition to download and store your files. Most of the torrent downloaders seed as well, but only for a limited time.

Seedboxes

Seedboxes are an important part of a torrent structure because without seeding the whole torrent idea dies. The ratio of sonicSeedbox seeding is by a maximum of 5:1, and a minimum of 3:1 Seedbox but please, beware of using them if you are complete beginner, because if you are not secured it could get you in legal trouble. I know a lot of people who paid fines for using a seedbox, and I don’t want that number to wider. A sonicSeedbox is capable of fetching torrent for you, which means that they can download your file on their site.

The speed of this download depends on how much seeds the file has, on the quality of every seed (because some seeds have speed limits) and lastly on the technology of torrent client that sonicSeedbox uses for download. I tested their speed with highly seeded files (more than 190 seeds) and with files that had around 20 seeds. The pace was about 0.5 MB per second highly seeded file and around 0.1 MB per second for a lower amount of seeds. This speed is still the average speed in today’s supply.

Dashboard

After downloading you will see your file in Dashboard. You can access your account on a computer and mobile devices. I tested the accessibility of this service on Pixel 2 XL, Blackberry Playbook and iPhone X to see if it works on all sizes of screens. There are small issues with elements on the page, but no problem is too big to ruin your user experience.

Currently, the dashboard is a place where you can add and manage your files. The learning curve is not user-friendly, and it takes a few thoughts to figure out how to use their service. This feature could be improved by having some user guide, but I find no sign of it. After testing how to add and interact with my torrents, I can say that there are only limited ways of interactions with your files. In a nutshell, you can download them or delete them.

All features of Sonicseedbox

Currently, free users can delete files after 24-hours of having them inside their storage to prevent misuse of their service. If you are a premium user, you can sync to other clouds which are called remote upload. Right now supported clouds are Google Drive, Dropbox, Onedrive and pCloud. I would discourage you from using OneDrive as a store for torrents because their bot-search bans people for storing them there. This issue can be avoided by renaming files, which is something that sonicSeedbox doesn’t support right now.

Streaming

SonicSeedbox also provides you with a streaming option for your video files. Whilst writing this review, their media player needs to format every known codec and the convert option is only for premium users. This means that you can access your media player as a free user, but you can’t use it. They have native support for subtitles, which is also only for premium users. I haven’t found quality settings, which is always a handy option to have. I cannot stress how many times watching in lower quality saved my mobile data.

Price plans

You can download your files to your device. Speed of this download depends on your connection to sonicSeedbox servers. There is a lot of factors that have some role in the strength of this connection, but if I simplify it: It is weaker at the same rate as the distance from sonicSeedbox servers is getting bigger. I tested their download speed with VPN to change my location around the world. In most of the locations in North America, Canada or Europe it was an average speed but for Asia or Africa, I experienced a lot of speed drops. These drops were the biggest in New Zealand or Australia.

Conclusion

The conclusion is that sonicSeedbox is an average torrent downloader. I rate the speed 3 out of 5, the service and cloud storage with 2 out of 5 and lastly the security as slightly below average with rating 2 out of 5. This rating is mainly like that because they share files between users and their terms are full of vague sentences which sound strange to me. I would personally recommend using one of their competitors. You can find the best one for yourself in my other reviews.
